Narrative: The factor which had the most influence on the growth of Nova Scotia's fruit industry was the lure of the British market. Travel and shipping via railway and ocean ports helped open up the Annapolis Valley even more. Fruit was packed into barrels, boxes and crates, and then stamped with the maker's information, allowing the companies and people transporting the goods to keep track of the shipments.
Description: Large circular tin stencil with wooden handle. Attached is cut in stencil: UNITED FRUIT COMPANIES OF N.S.I. LTD. KF BRAND PACKED BY KINGSTON FRUIT CO. LTD. KINGSTON N.S. KENTVILLE, N.S. (Note: K.F. BRAND is written inside of a diamond) The word KINGSTON in the 6th line above has some of the letters missing. Stencil is discoloured and bent. Used in preparing apple barrels for shipment.
