Broad axe, black in color.  Most likely of European design.The handle of this axe is not the original, being too short.

History of Use:

The broad axe`s chisel edge was used to hewn round logs into square timber to be used in house constuction and used in constructing ships. The handle was bent out to avoid jamming your hands between the handle & the tree you were hewing.
